בדא
בדי, בָּדָא, בָּדָה(b. h., √בד, v. בדד) to dig out, whence 1) (cmp. ברא) to take out (a piece of dough) and shape, to form. Men.V, 1; Sifra Emor Par. 10, ch. XIII השאור בּוֹדֶהוכ׳ he gets the leaven required for the loaves out of themselves (taking a piece of dough out of that intended for the loaves). 2) to create, invent. Ned.10a לשון שבָּדוּוכ׳ terms (for vows) which the Scholars have (arbitrarily) invented (as disguises). Lev. R. s. 9 לשון בָּדוּי an invented expression. Gen. R. s. 100 דברים בְּדוּיִים fictitious words. Ib. s. 48 בדויים (sub. דברים, some ed. בדאות). Pi. בִּידָּא, בִּידָּה 1) same. Y.Meg.I, 71c top בי׳ להןוכ׳ made up for them a false Latin translation (of the Bible) from the Greek; v. בָּרַר.Y.Keth.II, 26b bot. מְבַדִּין היינו we have been inventing, i. e. speaking in fun; Tosef. ib. II, 1 מבודין אנו (corr. acc.; Var. בדאים). Y.Kidd.III, 64d מבדין אתםוכ׳, prob. to be read מן הדין. Y.Shebi.IV, 35b bot. מבדין בחדשים, v. בָּהָה. 2) to disprove, refute. Tanḥ. Balak, 14; ed. Bub. 23 (ref. to baddim, Is. 44:25) מְבַדִּיןוכ׳ they frustrate their predictions. Hithpa. הִתְבַּדָּה to be tempted to a falsehood, turn a liar. Ber.4a; Der. Er. Zut. ch. III train thy tongue to say, I do not know, שמא תִּתְבַּדֶּהוכ׳ lest thou be induced to tell a falsehood and be caught.
